From 30,000 feet, there are problems in humanity. They are psychological and physical. That is feeling the threat of other people invading our land and resource. The threat is the loss of food and crowding our individual growth and pleasure. The excess population is the root cause of all these problems: depleting fossil fuels (plastic pollution), climate change, expecting answers from dictators, the impetus to inhabit other pristine planets, selfish social behavior to accumulate wealth over fellows, and tribalistic protection of resources.
There are 4.62 billion acres of cropland globally. (USGS,2017) There are over 8 billion people. (United Nations, 2023) So we are trying to support 1.73 people per acre. It’s hard to imagine this load on the land for more than a few decades.
Everyone can have a parking place, clean water, and fresh vegetables when our birth rate falls behind our death rate long enough to reduce the current population by about half. We need children to avoid extinction. We need to reduce the population load on the planet and each other so we will survive the next 1,000 years.
We can adapt to it.
